Savonarola, Charles VIII, and Louis XI

Girolamo Savonarola left some of his listeners speechless.  The Italian War had to do with King Charles VIII of France taking over Naples, Florence, Rome, Pisa.  Before Charles VIII there was Louis XI who is an important and significant figure in the history of France.  Most of this happened during the fifteenth-century.

Roland and Oliver

Roland and Oliver in the poem, Song of Roland, were friends and companions in the war of the French and Muslims.  During one of the battles, Oliver, Roland, and 2,000 Franks are left behind to fight the Muslims attacking them.  Oliver suggested to Roland to blow the rescue horn to save Roland, the Franks, and himself. However, Roland thinks this suggestion is crazy and says that it would make him look like a fool to all of France.

Philip II Augustus and the Medieval Church

Philip II Augustus played a really important role in the history of the world and France.  Probably without him, France would probably not be here.  The Medieval Church is important to know about, even the things of what they did.  Like sacraments and indulgences are just a few of the traditions of the Medieval Church.

   The Vikings, as we have known them, were not only interesting boat-builders but also vicious, war-thirsty men and women.  Well, what happens when we first hear them in history?  They started an invasion in France.  How did the people of France take this?  What did they do?  What did the Vikings do that made the people run away?  Continue reading to find out.

The Franks

   Even though the Franks were barbarians, they played important parts in history.  They had to do with the Carolingians gaining the power the Merovingians once had.  They also formed an alliance with the Papacy.  So here are two stories of the Franks, and only two of their parts in the history of the world.
